Biography
Jassmine Parks (she/her) is a Detroit-born poet and multidisciplinary artist. Through the transformative power of storytelling, she explores Black womanhood, lineage, healing, and the aftermath of incarceration and foster care on familial ties.
She serves as an adjunct professor of creative writing with Lawrence Tech University and as a program coordinator at InsideOut Literary Arts, where she supports youth-centered creative writing programs, trauma-informed training for teaching artists, and community partnerships across Detroit. Her practice is rooted in care, truth telling, and building spaces where people feel seen and powerful.
Parks has been supported by fellowships from the Watering Hole, Kresge Arts in Detroit, PEN America, Vermont Studio Center, and Torch Literary Arts. Parks is a Rising Leader with the Michigan Arts and Culture Council. Her work has been published by the Detroit MetroTimes, Obsidian, Clearline Magazine, and Room Object.
She is currently working on her debut poetry collection.
