Biography

Monterica Sadé Neil (she/her) is a storyteller. She writes fiction and creative nonfiction. She was raised in Memphis, Tennessee. After earning a BA in Creative Writing from the University of Tennessee at Chattanooga, she went on to earn an MFA from Louisiana State University.

Monterica’s writing considers love, human connections to spirits, what becomes of the brokenhearted, addiction, death, grief, intrafamilial violence, and the flawed mothering of wounded mothers. Her writing has been published in the Offing, MLK 50: Justice Through Journalism and elsewhere. She’s currently at work on a memoir.

Neil has been awarded scholarships to Tin House Workshop and Lambda Literary’s Writers Retreat for Emerging LGBTQ Voices, a residency at the Stadler Center for Poetry & Literary Arts, and a Periplus fellowship. Her efforts as a writer have also been supported by United States Artists. She lives and works as a Behavioral Health Technician in Tucson, Arizona.
