
Biography
Geneva Phillips (she/her) is a poet, creative nonfiction, and fiction writer. Both raised and incarcerated in Oklahoma, her work seeks to navigate the complex, dystopic, and confusing realities that comprise Oklahoma and its people. She is the author of the memoir Disappearing in Glimpses (Mongrel Empire Press), excerpts of which were published in the Columbia: A Journal of Art and Literature. Phillips is currently finishing a genre-spanning collection of threaded fictional short stories.
Her writing has been honored and included in four published PEN America Prison Writing Awards anthologies. She is a recipient of the 2024 PEN America Prison and Justice Writing L'Engle-Rahman Essay Awards. Phillips is an inside volunteer and cofacilitates classes with Poetic Justice, a nationally recognized, award-winning Oklahoma based nonprofit, which helps incarcerated women find their voices, rediscover hope, and empowers them to change through writing in community. Phillips believes in and is committed to pursuing healing through recovery, restorative justice solutions that incorporate second chances. She looks forward to unpacking her future upon release from prison in late 2026.
