
Biography
B Batchelor (he/him) is a poet. Born in Washington, D.C. and raised across the South, his poetry explores the human condition, often through a carceral lens. His poems witness past and present surroundings within incarceration and are critical illuminations of a devastating criminal justice landscape. Batchelor's poetry has been published in the Nation, Columbia Journal, Cream City Review, and other journals. He is currently working on his debut poetry collection, Digging Sky from Dirt.
Batchelor has won multiple awards from PEN America and his chapbook, Disfigured Hours (Rain Light Press) was a 2022 finalist for the Ballard Spahr Prize for Poetry. Batchelor, an alum of the Minnesota Prison Writing Workshop (MPWW), has led workshops with MPWW, coedited the anthology American Precariat (Coffee House Press), and is an artist with We Are All Criminals and the SEEN Project. A writer and visual artist, he has resided in Minnesota since 2002.
